Steven A. Smith... Your Fired!

Yes its true. ESPN has announced in a statement released last week that it had canceled its night time talk show "Quite Frankly" starring sports writer/commentator Steven A. Smith. And I couldnt be happier.

Steven A. Smith was a racist hack who should have had his show cancelled after his first dumb politically incorrect statement was ever uttered for the world to hear. The man spends most of his show talking about how the white man is holding the black athlete down. He even stood up for Barry Bonds (alleged) steroid use by saying he was just trying to level the playing field with the likes of Mark McGwire (and other white athletes who cheated first). Even more rediculous for that he lectured about how the NBA was in the wrong when they punished Carmelo Anthony and a few others for an on-court fight that occured. He even said in his show that if they had been white players the penalties would have been less severe.

Racism is a horrible thing, and breeds hatred between people. Steven A. Smith is a racist in the worst sense of the word because not only does he base decisions on race, but he attempts to spread his racism as fact to the world through tv and type. I hope he is never given another chance to get on television.

Steven A. Smith's shtick was getting annoying, although he did great great guests on his show. Although his show is coming to an end, he is still an employee of ESPN right?

Yes. Much to my dismay he will be held onto by ESPN as an employee. Used in smaller roles, mostly as a basketball specialist.

Wow.

Well, I would not consider Smith a racist - but, he basically a person who was a shtick, much like in the Skip Bayless mode.

He played the part of the annoying hack who has an opinion about anything and everything, though he knew next to nothing some of his topics.

His act was growing old, and very rarely does an idea on ESPN last for too long.

He'll be on the network still, most likely as an NBA analyst and pundit...

Good to see another blogger from B-more, I'm in MD, in Montgomery County...

I loved Steven A's show. Now, I do live in California, the land of the "politically correct" and as an educated, fairly successful, happily married black mother; I can tell you PC is not all it's cracked up to be. Sometimes it's nice to hear someone just say what they really mean.

As far as any of Steven's "white man got the black athlete down" comments...some gave the owners too much credit and the players too little responsibility. As a somewhat regular sports spectator, I often see announcers slobbering happily over ever effort made by so-called star white athletes. In turn, there are times when nothing is said about just as amazing black athletes.

In short, Steven isn't too far off. Also, as much often has been said, in order for there to be racism, you need to have institutionalized power. I would wonder if the fact that this outspoken black guy, who said what "he" thought about the "white sports establishment" was just too much for those throngs of white, male sports fans that would prefer to just see their black athletes jump, tackle, and run. Don't talk, don't think, don't call me on my own double standards, it just ruins my idea of entertainment.

Good going Steven! Thanks for showing we can think and have opinions, be funny, talk mess, and still know what the heck we are talking about.

He'll be back....BAABBBY! HE'LL BE BACK!!!!

Teachone are you serious. Black athletes are given just as much hype and talk as white athletes. Do you live in Mayberry where there are all whites except for one or two blacks on your sports teams? Then yes, in your world blacks are not talked about enough. For the rest of us in the real world, in most sports, black athletes out number the whites and for good reason they got there because they were better. I can’t get through a Sports Center without hearing about King James. Black athletes are given just as much time if not more.
About your issue with white fans just wanting their black athletes to just jump, tackle and run and not think or talk. I want all the athletes regardless of race to shut up if I want insightful analysis about social and world issues I will go look for reliable and knowledgeable sources for that information. All people should have an opinion but sports shows are for sports so they show keep their comments to that.
Not all white people are racist and think you and all other African American are thoughtless like you suggest. Just by you saying that creates a giant stereo type and slanted views like your own are no different from the ones you are criticizing.

Give me a brake dude! Steven A tells it like it is and when you don't want to hear the truth you play the race card. You keep talking about Bonds but your mouth is shut when it comes to Roger and Mark so who's the racist? Get a life dude!

someone thought he was over the top evidently or else he would not have disappeared.

Can't stand this dude. He is ridiculous, the most racist commentator I've ever heard. He just jumps on whatever opinion is popular, stays on the popular side, and then he throws in the race card so he sounds insightful and original.

I used to like Steven A's honesty and swagger. However the more a person listens to his rants, it becomes impossible not to realize his contempt for white people. I am white and a niners fan. growing up my hero wasnt Joe Montana, it was Jerry Rice. Im sick of the reverse racism, and double standard. Ive been called white boy hundreds of times, and it doesnt bother me. what if I called someone else "black boy" or "brown Boy" These people like Steven A crying racism are the ones creating it. He also has very degrading comments towards women. Hasnt anybody else noticed any of this?

Steven A Smith is out spoken. I admire him for that! Skip Bayless is just as loud and says some of the most ridicilous statements I have ever heard. Skip clowns Vick, Lebron, Bonds, but praises Tim Tebow who cant play @ all despite coaches and experts telling him. Blacks are still behind inda world and Steve A reflects on that, in some of his cases its da truth (period). Ovviously Espn sees stature w/ him because he is still employed by them. And Skip Bayless needs to chill wit some of darogetory remarks reguarding Steve A. "Steven A is intelligent and says what most people wanna say but wont. I admire him for that."

Wow! Really? You are out of touch with race in this country. I have no doubt what race you are and how far in the sticks you live. As long as a race of a different persuasion from yours voice their truths, their opinions you will forever try to discredit their views & distort them. Sad.
